with Marilyn McIntyre
Accessing real emotion and genuinely living truthfully in an imaginary set of circumstances often causes actors huge problems. At the Howard Fine Acting Studio Marilyn McIntyre has designed and delivered a program that addresses these issues. Through her many years of experience working with Uta Hagen and Howard Fine, Marilyn has refined a technique that is unsurpassed at liberating actors and allowing them to travel organically through their work.
"A human being attempting to navigate through an event, conflict, discovery, decision, or crisis is compelling to watch. An actor creating truthful human behavior can be compelling too, by using technique to live in the middle of a fictional event and the text to navigate through it. Yet I often see actors keeping themselves on the outside, essentially reporting on the event like a news reporter hovering above in a chopper." Personalisation I - The Fusion of Personal Experience and Imagination
Delivered over 3 weeks
In Personalisation I, an eclectic variety of techniques are used to help the actor find what allows them to discover and bring their most personal, authentic and unique self to their work.
The fusion of personal experiences and imagination is what allows an actor to fully personalise the work. The awareness, clarity, and connectedness of the actor's mind, heart and body are essential in bringing a fictional character to a complex, spontaneous and compelling life. As actors, we examine the human heart and human behaviour from our personal perspectives, which always includes personal experiences and our imagination. They can’t be separated. This will lead the actor to more fully understand concepts/tools, 'transference' ('substitution'), and when and how to use this tool of 'transference' effectively.
